Osseous (Bone) Surgery

When periodontal disease has destroyed supportive tissues, surgery is needed to reshape or restore lost bone and tissues. This increases the chance of saving teeth that may have been lost. Flap surgery provides access so that diseased tissue may be removed and damaged bone may be smoothed and reshaped reducing spaces where bacteria can grow and harbor infection. The gum is then closed over the reshaped bone at or near the original gumline.
